Greetings:

Opening the Season: Film Group 2018-19

As mentioned in a brief, previous email, this season’s Film Group will consist of ten movies, five before New Year and five after. The season begins this Sunday, September 30, and the continuing 2018 dates are: October 14 & 28; November 11 & 25. All are on Sundays. Showtimes are at 4PM

This season we are offering only one package deal: the entire season of ten movies for $90. We will be punching these admission passes at the counter, because if you are not able to use all ten prepaid admissions - bad weather, a Mexican holiday… - you may ‘cash in’ the unused ones for any commercial film we show up to August 31, 2019. The admission rate for ‘pay as you go’ individual admissions is $11.

The 10-movie passes are available now. You may purchase them at any time during usual theatre hours, or you can purchase and pick them up before the movie on September 30. If you wish to phone or email in advance, we will have the cards ready. Cash, debit/credit, and cheques are all welcome.

There will be the annual social gathering before the opening movie on Sunday. Doors will be open before 2:30PM. Complimentary sweets, coffee and tea will be available.

There are four more 2018 movies that are still being chosen. The information on this part of the schedule will be mailed to you within in the next week.

And, a general word about the viability of continuing film group for future years: while I continue to operate this theatre, there will be a Film Group so long as it remains financially viable. And, the meaning of this term in this context is simple breakeven. It does not have to produce a profit, but simply carry its own costs. I thank all of you for the years of support for this venture; it is now in its 23rd season!

The opening movie is FINDING YOUR FEET. A short synopsis follows.
See you Sunday…

111 minutes
Principal Cast: Imelda Staunton, Celia Imrie,
Timothy Spall, Joanna Lumley

As the newly minted “Lady” Abbot, Sandra (Imelda Staunton, Pride; Another Year) is on top of the world and looking forward to enjoying the rest of her life with her husband, Mike (John Sessions, Denial; Florence Foster Jenkins). However, when Sandra discovers Mike embracing her best friend and uncovers their years-long affair, her plans for their idyllic retirement dissolve before her eyes.

With her picture-perfect but stuffy aristocratilife crumbling around her, Sandra moves in with her eccentric sister, Bif (Celia Imrie, Bridget Jones’s Baby; The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel), and embarks on a journey to find herself and reconnect with her decidedly less-posh roots. As Bif’s patience for her sister’s self-pity wears thin, and in hopes of snapping her out of her funk, Bif invites Sandra to join her dance class and meet her friends Charlie (Timothy Spall, Mr. Turner; Denial), Jackie (Joanna Lumley, Absolutely Fabulous: The Movie; The Wolf of Wall Street), and Ted (David Hayman, Macbeth; The Boy in the Striped Pajamas). Surrounded by new friends and reviving her longstanding love for dance, Sandra comes to enjoy her new life with her sister — but she can’t avoid her past for long. Featuring an all-star cast of Film Circuit favourites, Finding Your Feet proves it’s never too late to start again and reconnect with the people you love.

“When given the chance (which is always), the cast unlocks moments that are so intimate and naturally detailed, you would swear that the actors had no idea the cameras were rolling.”

You can be added to their e-mail list by sending your info to theatre@nrtco.net or calling them at 613.432.6139. (I told everyone when they gave me their addresses I would not trade, sell or give your information away)
